What’s Gone On This Week?

Brad and Angelina secretly tied the knot

After nine years of being one of the best-looking, best-known couples of Hollywood, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt finally made it official with a secret wedding ceremony at Château Miraval, their home in France. Jolie was apparently escorted down the aisle by her eldest sons, Maddox and Pax, whilst daughters Zahara and Vivienne scattered flower petals and Shiloh and Knox served as ring bearers. All this we know, yet we do not have any exact idea when it comes to what the bride wore; a guest described it as “very traditional, but very Angie. It was comfortable but plain, white floor-length antique lace and silk.” Whatever she wore, I’m sure she looked lovely; congrats, guys!

Meanwhile, at H&M

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett were revealed as the stars of the high street brand’s Christmas campaign; quite the unlikely duo, no? The pair will be hitting television screens from November, performing a number from upcoming album “Cheek to Cheek.” I’m intrigued.

The MTV VMA Awards

The yearly extravaganza of the bizarre, the controversial and the just plain awkward was back, and whilst there was no twerking or big foam fingers, there were still a few surprises to be had. Miley Cyrus took a leaf from Marlon Brando’s book, sending Jesse, a homeless teen, to accept the award for Video of the Year on her behalf, whilst rapper Common addressed the recent unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, following the shooting of teenager Michael Brown. There were also performances from Iggy Azalea, Charlie XCX, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande, and Beyonce closed the show with a characteristically unforgettable medley, showing that this years VMAs were all about the girls. Have a closer look at what everybody wore here.

The Emmy Awards

The 66th Emmy Awards celebrated the stars of television, and (unsurprisingly) it was “Breaking Bad” which this year dominated the prize table, beating off some pretty fierce competition to take home the award for “Outstanding Drama Series.” Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn also took home awards for their roles in the series, whilst Moira Walley-Beckett scooped the prize for “Outstanding Writing in a Drama.”

breaking bad

British mini-series “Sherlock” also won big, with Steven Moffat winning for his writing of the show, and Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman winning for their roles as Sherlock and his famous sidekick. Billy Crystal also paid tribute to his friend, the late Robin Williams, in a touching speech which remembered the beloved actor as “the brightest star in the comedy galaxy.” Crystal ended with “Robin Williams – what a concept.”

Check out what the stars wore here.

Venice Film Festival

It’s also been a big week for film, with the industry’s elite arriving in that jewel of a city for the 71st Venice Film Festival. One of the most prestigious cultural events of the year, as well as the oldest international film festival, there’s sure to be a lot to talk about by the time this year’s event comes to a close next week. For now, have this photo of Kirsten Dunst and a gramophone at the Miu Miu party.

“Friends” Reunited

Jimmy Kimmel persuades Jennifer Aniston to read lines with him as part of a “Friends” “fan fiction” which he supposedly wrote himself. He reveals an exact replica of the now-iconic “Friends” apartment, and Aniston’s former co-stars, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, wander in half-way through. What ensues is perhaps the most awkward five minutes to ever air in modern television history; sometimes the past is the past for a reason.

And Finally

This kid, who will be forever cool, because he happened to be wearing this shirt on the day he met Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
