Nicole Miller; What’s Going On?
Bursting with carnival-esque fun and energy, the spirit of Rio de Janeiro swept the world this summer in the form of the Football World Cup, and although the last goal has long been scored, and the last dive has been dived, the spirit of Rio lives on in Nicole Miller’s fabulous designs.
Even the runway echoed the Copacabana’s Portuguese pavement, clashing strikingly with the explosion of different patterns and prints which characterised this collection.
Silhouettes were cool and a little playful, with fluttering hems and sleek, flowing lines. Short, structured jackets gave a slightly edgy definition to the more floaty dresses and skirts, hair and make-up was kept natural; in keeping with that I-just-got-back-from-the-beach look.
Enticing, abstract tropical prints provided the perfect counterpart to graphic monochrome stripes and almost psychedelic patterns.
Separates, often in wonderfully jarring patterns, were central to this collection, and the crop top was back to add a little va va voom to figure-hugging midi skirts and flouncy minis alike.
The models made the final walk with vintage suitcases in hand, as though they were casually off to sun themselves on a Brazilian beach; a stylishly whimsical end to a beautifully refreshing collection, even if it did instil a certain longing for summer holidays.
